Sparking Student Motivation: Taking Pictures (and some awesome giveaways!!)

I'm linking up with my BBB, Joanne to tell you about something I realized just recently was a motivator! My kiddos do not know that I have a blog. But, as you know, I'm always taking pictures of them working or of their actual work. They don't know what it's for and honestly, they've never asked! But they know when I pull my phone out to start taking pictures that I'm looking for someone who has given their best work. Now I have kids ask, "will you take a picture of my work?" even when I don't have my phone out! So, even if you don't have a blog, start taking pictures of good work... it will make them want to the be next star of the photo! :o)

And now, a little motivator for you! Two of my most favorite bloggers are having giveaways!!
My friend Nick at Sweet Rhyme & Pure Reason has a fabulous blog and amazing products! He teaches a 3/4 combined class in Pennsylvania, and works true magic with them, might I add!
My friend Erin at I'm Lovin' Lit is also celebrating her blog birthday! She is a middle school teacher in Louisiana. She has amazing interactive notebook products for grades 4-8 if you are in need of some! :o)

Be sure to check out both of these giveaways to win some awesome prizes! And... be on the lookout for a future giveaway very soon from yours truly! I just reached 1500 Bloglovin' Followers today, and I just happen to have a St. Patty's Day Birthday, too! :o)

  2. Haha...I love it, Jessica! Our school has started requiring classrooms to host Twitter pages, and now I do the same thing with tweets. "Wow, this is your best work. Let's tweet it!" I love hearing the conversations between students..."Do you think she'll tweet this?" ;)

  3. Thanks for the shout-out! Now that you mention it I think my kids might perk up a bit too when they know I'm taking pictures! And it never occurred to me that they have no idea why I'm taking the pictures. Haha.

  6. Isn't it funny how they respond! I started posting my pictures to an online gallery using Padlet. They LOVE it.

Congratulations on the milestone! My husband's birthday is the 12th, but as an Irishman in another country he feels like that means he can celebrate all week. ;)

    Enjoy your weekend!

  8. My kiddos asked me once what I was taking the picture for and I didn't really want to tell them I had a blog! I'm not the best at coming up with something right away and I'm pretty sure I said something crazy like, "Oh, I just like to take pictures of your work sometimes!" Haha. I eventually started a "Snapshots of Our Year" (from That's So Second Grade) and that was always my "reason" for taking the pictures! LOL!

  9. You are absolutely right - they do get motivated when the picture taking starts! Congrats on reaching another milestone : )

  10. Pictures are a great motivator. My kids don't realize why I'm taking pictures either..it's kind of funny actually. They must think I just take pictures of them on my phone for me to have! :) I use twitter in my room as well, and often after or during a lesson we will stop and take a picture to share what we're working on! They love it!!!

  11. Paparazzi! You KNOW I love this! I went ahead and told my kids that I had a blog...that way they couldn't stumble upon it and it keeps me from saying bad things. They are my proofreaders often and I figure it's a way to show off to their parents if they feel inclined to do so. It's funny if I say..."this might end up on the blog", they will work even harder on something...just in case.(you know how competitive my group is....so NOT my fault....lol)
