Friday, Fun-day!

Freebie Fridays

I want to start off by giving you something you can hopefully use NEXT Friday (Ah! I can't BELIEVE next Friday is March! This year is flying!!) for Dr. Seuss's birthday! This is for upper grades- I created it last year because our older babies hardly ever get to have any fun on these fun types of celebration days. There are 6 challenging "Seussical" word problems for them to solve. I am actually going to use this in my Math Workshop all week, but you could give it to them on Friday to do during math instead. :) Click here or on the picture below to download this freebie!
This is the time of year I think I always get really stressed. I had a bit of a nervous breakdown last night in fact. I am completely overwhelmed with the amount of things I still have to teach AND review before our state test. We do a pacing guide as a grade level to lay things out once every quarter, but I am going to sit down tonight and REALISTICALLY lay things out again to see what's going to happen over the next SEVEN school weeks we have left before the CRCT. And really, we don't even have seven because some of those weeks have holidays for long weekends. Oh and in the middle of week 6 and 7 there is Spring Break, and we all know what happens to the kids' brains then... I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Ok, moving on to some FUN topics! I am creating a Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs unit to cover some reading and writing skills as well as review the weather we learned at the beginning of the year in Science. I feel like March is a good time to use this book with all the crazy weather we tend to have.
Look for it this weekend, along with a GIVEAWAY of the unit, as usual, when it's complete. :)

First though, we are getting in a little review of space and the moon starting next week with a unit over the book Who Is Neil Armstrong? from Collaboration Cuties. It is WONDERFULLY put together and I'm so excited to have that portion of my reading lessons taken care of for a couple of weeks! :)

I am also pretty excited to share with you in an upcoming post about the way I "run" Reader's Workshop! I just got it more organized this week... Here is a sneak peek. :)

Happy Friday!!

  1. I am sorry you are feeling so stressed. :( State tests can really tear a person up. On a happier note, I am excited for your Cloudy with a Change of Meatballs unit and reader's workshop post!

  2. Ugh, too bad you are so stressed out. I have been feeling the same way. We have had to do so many assessments lately that I am going crazy trying to meet with each kid individually, inputting grades, and everything else. I hope that you will be able to plan things out and get everything done without being too anxious.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is an awesome book! I am sure your unit will be great!

  3. Sorry you're so stressed my friend! It's that time of year. We start to get that standardized test gleam in our eye. I think you're right on track to make a realistic guide. Do what you can and hold on tight to your sanity!

  6. We start testing in about two weeks. Is it bad that I don't know exactly when the first day is? I know that it is for sure before spring break. Guess I had better do some planning! :/
